Description
As an airline, safety is our most important principle. And our Corporate Safety team is responsible for making sure safety is top of mind in every action we take. From conducting flight safety investigations and educating pilots on potential safety threats to implementing medical programs and helping prevent employee injuries, our team is instrumental in running a safe and successful airline for our customers and employees.
Job overview and responsibilities
The FAA/DOT requires that 25% random drug testing and 10% random alcohol testing is conducted annually. These activities are volume based and established on the total number of safety sensitive employees. Functions include random testing, follow-up testing, reasonable cause/suspicion, post-accident and post-injury testing. The role and responsibilities of this position are driven by federal regulation and company policy for accuracy in the execution of testing and administration.
- Responsible for the accurate and efficient administration of United required and FAA/DOT mandated drug and alcohol testing activities while maintain credentials to conduct drug and alcohol testing
- Subject matter expert on FAA/DOT drug and alcohol policies, promoting and educating stakeholders across operation on when particular test type and polices would apply
- Responsible for audit preparation through maintaining required documentation, completing regular self-audits and partnering with Designated Employee Representative (DER) on FAA mandated audits.
- Engage in overall business strategy associated with United's testing programs and drive process improvements to create efficiencies while complying with the U.S. Department of Transportation regulations, 49 CFR Part 40 and CFR Part 120
- Be able to perform essential functions of the job to accomplish testing services
- This also includes working flexible schedules, including on call support, weekends, split shift, and evening hours to accomplish testing services and may require occasional travels to conduct testing services based on operational demands
- Develop and maintain strong working partnership with various workgroups across operation, including Airport Operations, Technical Operations, Flight Operations, Inflight, Network Operations and clinic partners
- Responsible for ensuring adequate and current testing inventory to administer testing services at all times
- This includes keeping an ample supply of authorized testing forms, equipment, and support items that are needed for operating the alcohol testing system
Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of related work experience
- Microsoft Office proficient and an ability to learn and to use other systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, team collaboration and problem solving skills
- Must be attentive to details, organized, and have the ability to comprehend regulated materials
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks associated with providing testing services and to professionally respond to changing priorities, with minimum, direct supervision
- Should possess effective judgment and customer-service orientation
- Must able to maintain a SIDA badge at any United testing as needed
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

- Bachelor's degree
- Certified Drug Screen Collector
- Certified Breath Alcohol Technician
- Work experience in a training or substance abuse environment
- 2+ years of airline experience
- Recent experience with CFR 49 Part 40 and CFR Part 120
- Prior drug and alcohol testing experience
The base pay range for this role is $60,040.00 to $78,208.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
