Our Technical Operations team is full of aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities professionals, and supply chain teams that help make sure they're well taken care of and ready to get our customers to their desired destinations. Job overview and responsibilities
- Reports to the Sr. Manager Technical Operations Line Maintenance Safety and Compliance and oversees division safety training, issues, and regulatory requirements. Serves as the subject matter expert in safety and compliance for Line and Base Maintenance operations (internal and external), including dangerous goods, and conducts continuous surveillance through regular site audits and visits.
- Manages all safety and compliance matters within the designated region, including secondary maintenance stations, and proactively addresses safety and compliance concerns for the assigned region and systemwide operations as a whole. Integrates surveillance and analysis of operational, safety, and compliance risks/trends with Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs.
- Supports the Managing Director of Line Maintenance and local management team as a champion to reduce the total number of injuries, injury severity, aircraft damages, lost time, operational impacts, and total cost. Actively supports Safety Action Team initiatives and promotes positive safety culture across all areas of responsibility.
- Leads investigations with local management for non-compliances and injury/damage incidents using standard methods, ensuring robust root cause analysis, mitigation strategies, and corrective action plans are developed and sustained locally and systemwide. Generates, analyzes, and presents audit and investigation findings and trends for department and division leadership.
- Ensures implementation and adherence to safety policies and procedures in support of division and corporate safety objectives and outside regulatory agencies. Implements SMS principles in surveillance activities including identification of hazards with high safety and regulatory compliance risk.
- Leads regular risk reviews and monitoring plans for risk identification, including through Safety Action Team meetings and in partnership with EMP compliance groups for SMS inputs. Promotes and incorporates lessons learned across Line and Base Maintenance, GSE, FX, Warehouse, and cross-divisional operations where applicable.
- Leads the implementation of one or more Tech Ops Safety Team systemwide initiatives. Provides mitigations and resolutions for safety issues and concerns from IBT and IAM Union Management Safety Committees.
- Serves as the Tech Ops subject matter expert and master trainer on one or more safety subjects and shares expertise and lessons learned with division and cross-division safety counterparts to support continuous improvement across the operation.
Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree or 4 years of experience in application of OSHA and ANSI standards and the Code of Federal Regulations
- Thorough understanding of FAA 14CFR.
- Standard Root cause corrective action (RCCA) methods and techniques.
- OSHA 30
- 4+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
- 5+ years experience in aircraft maintenance, inspection, safety, dangerous goods, and or related air carrier experience.
- Proven leadership
- Interpersonal, written, and verbal presentation skills
- Highest standard of ethics and integrity to compliance adherence
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
- B.S. or M.S. in Aviation, Aerospace, Safety, Engineering, or equivalent
- Knowledge of UA policies and procedures
- Aircraft Maintenance
- Aviation or Aerospace Occupational Safety
- Airframe and Power Plant license
- Certified Safety Professional Certificate
- 2+ years of aircraft maintenance and/or maintenance management experience
- Experience in leading investigations, audits, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation and sustainment
- Knowledge and training on Dangerous Goods Handling and Transportation (IATA, 49CFR)
The base pay range for this role is $99,750.00 to $129,924.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
